4 Tips for Painting like a Pro👍

1. Wood needs Primer before Paint - Wood is a porous surface that need a primer to create a smooth surface for paint to adhere. Stain, however, seeps into the pores of the wood, changing the hue. If you're painting wood a color, go for primer. If you're painting a deck, go for stain.

2. Prep and Prime - Take the time to remove hardware like outlet covers, doorknobs, drawer pulls, etc. before you start your painting. Taping around them may seem easier, but it doesn't create that seamless finish, and can sometimes leave a gap or a crease. Reinstallation is the best route to keeping your items safe from drip and smudges.

3. Remove Wallpaper Before Painting - I know it's tempting, but don't paint over that wallpaper! You won't get the smooth finish that you're hoping for. Not to mention, once you paint over wallpaper, it is nearly impossible to remove without damaging your wall, which adds more time and labor to any future changes to your space. Scrape first and save yourself!

4. Paint Oxidizes - Your paint may seem to turn a shade darker as it dries than you anticipated. If you can, test your paint sample on your surface to make sure you like how light and shadow affect your color choice. Don't panic once it's applied, give it some time!
